SUMMARY:Zamajobe at Hugh's Jazz Club
DESCRIPTION:Zamajobe Sithole known as Zamajobe is a South African singer songwriter who’s humble beginnings are from the cool and dusty streets of Vosloorus\, East Rand. Born in Vereeniging at her Grandmother’s house\, her parents Nombuso and Themba Sithole moved to Johannesburg for work opportunities and the family of four\, with Zamajobe’s older brother Ayanda Sithole\, where 1st based in Soweto and then permanently got settled in Vosloorus\, East Rand. \nZamajobe’s mother came from a religious backround and naturally she instilled that in her children. Making them active members in the church. That’s where Zamajobe would get introduced to and fell madly in love with the soulful and uplifting sounds of Gospel music. Mixed with Zamajobe’s Father who was an Academic and heavy jazz music collector\, that’s where Zamajobe would later get her infusion of music influences which would later be a major influence in her writing and composition style. \nHer 1st major introduction into the South African audience was when she was voted out 7th in the 2nd season of Idols South Africa. Altough she didn’t obviously win\, she got major publicity from the competition and had a lot of recording offers from major labels across the country. Zama then went and signed with Sony under the guidance of Dave Thompson who was a judge in Idols and a mentor throughout the competition for Zamajobe. \n8 months after signing her 1st recording deal Zamajobe went to release her critically acclaimed debut album Ndawo Yami\, which is celebrating 20 yrs this year with various celebrations happening throughout the country. The double platinum album won several categories at the SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS (SAMA) and other major awards shows in the country and abroad\, with nominees in the MTV EUROPE Awards to name a few. Followed by her 2nd and 3rd album Ndoni Yamanzi and Thula Mtwana which have had successes in their own right. \nZamajobe has enjoyed a 20yr long career of touring and gigging till this day. Working with some of the best musicians in the world both locally and abroad. Her timeless\, soulful and African funk sounds have given her a permanent name in the game and has solidified her as a very strong force in the South African music industry. \nAlthough its been 10 yrs since her last release\, Zamajobe’s much anticipated 4th studio album Umi is due for release in November. Even having started 20 yrs ago\, Zamajobe feels like she’s starting afresh and is anticipating another long and successful career ahead of her\, starting with her long awaited studio album Umi. These are exciting times for the singer and she’s very much excited for the journey ahead. \nDoors open at 18:00 \nThe show begins promptly at 19:30
