About

Musicist.co.za is a anomalous music centered website, currently operating under four pillar categories, namely:
Profiling – profiling of music genres, artists, songs, albums etc. via reviews, interviews and written posts.
Commentary – music related commentary based on current, hot, or coveted topics and news.
Journaling – music blog pieces based on opinions, personal experiences and views of the writers, contributors, or collaborators.
Playlisting – music streaming compiled playlists by in-house playlist curators.

The name Musicist.co.za – que play the it’s not Hippo it’s Hippo.co.za ad – was proffered by Masana Zitha who particularly noted the “catchiness” of the name as well as the reference to a specialty in music that comes with the suffix -ist. In addition the .co.za indicates lineage and allows for seamless and instant navigation.

The concept of Musicist.co.za as a blog platform was initially inspired by the work of the renowned Gwen Ansell and her eponymously titled blog platform sisgwenjazz as well as the chilled blog writing style of music journaling guru Helen Herembi. However, the nature of our growth trajectory that has come with the addition of new features apart from the blog has led to even more inspiration being derived from platforms such as New Age Artistry and even more particularly Texx and the City.
