Apho Kungenje: Listening Session

To celebrate her upcoming debut album, “Apho Kungenje,” Ncesh Nonxishi will be hosting a listening session where she will share the stories behind her music. The album consists of 7 tracks and is influenced by Ncesh Nonxishi’s diverse musical interests, including Xhosa folk music, R&B, jazz, pop, and church hymns. It is co-produced by Bokani Dyer and Ncesh Nonxishi, with Mimi Mtshali as Vocal Producer and Lebo Pangwa as the Music Director.

The album covers a variety of themes close to her heart, such as landlessness, friendship, anti-blackness, and sexual freedom. The album features Nneka Manzi on backing vocals, Lindi Ngonelo on keys, Gally Ngoveni on bass, Siphiwe Shiburi and Lungile Kunenene on drums, Linda Tshabalala on alto sax and flute, and Lebo Pangwa on trombone.

Ncesh Nonxishi will be in conversation with Dr. Athambile Masola at the event which will be followed by a set by Buntu The Ghetto.
