ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Pam Lunguza
Pam Lunguza is a musician from Nyanga East, Cape Town, whose love for the arts was inspired by her father’s guitar playing. A third-year BMUS student at UCT, she specializes in jazz voice and incorporates various genres, including Jazz, Afro-soul, Gospel, and R&B. Pam has performed locally and internationally, collaborating with artists in Mauritius and Reunion Island, and participating in events like the Cape Town Youth Jazz Festival. She is part of the Afro-fusion jazz band The Chapterz and has recently begun her solo career. Notable performances include the UCT Women’s Luncheon and the UCT Graduate School of Business ceremony. Her original song “The Unfinished Song” is set to feature in the upcoming documentary Faces of Africa.
Samora Magwa
Samora is a talented rapper and poet from Nyanga, Cape Town, known for his magical storytelling through spoken word. He developed a unique style that blends insightful lyrics with soulful beats, spending years honing his craft. Recognized by the local label Hitchat, he gained prominence through open mic performances and underground shows, attracting a dedicated fanbase. As a poet, Samora explores themes of identity, love, and social justice, earning acclaim for his powerful imagery. His passion and dedication continue to inspire audiences as he showcases his multifaceted artistry.
Bumbuntu Presents Initiative
During a guided tour in Khayelitsha, we met Xhosa Hippie, a promising artist, who shared his journey highlighting the challenges he faces in acquiring the necessary resources for his music career. Touched by his story, the Bumbuntu team has decided to rally behind Thulani and other artists and dedicate their efforts to creating music nights to help them fundraise for the equipment and resources they need to flourish in the music scene. Bumbuntu is dedicated to providing a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talents, creating a vibrant space where music truly comes to life. Tickets are priced at ZAR100, and the revenue from ticket sales goes directly to the artists.
