Folklore Festival 2024: FOLK & POETRY STAGE @ BLACK LABONE
8 August @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Free
Folklore Festival 2024 POETRY STAGE @ BLACK LABONE at The South African State Theatre in Pretoria is a FREE SHOW.
Our growing community invites you to this collaborative occasion on the Launch Week of Folklore Fringe Festival 2024.
“Black Labone (Black Thursday), an organisation dedicated to empowering artists and encouraging exceptional work through collaboration, started as a weekly open mic event. Our aim was to give insight into Pretoria’s immediate artistic community. As one of Pretoria’s fastest-growing weekly sessions, we provide an open platform for a diverse array of local artistry as well as work from artists from abroad. The structure not only opens up space for upcoming and seasoned artists to share old and new work but also creates a platform for the established artist to experiment within the showcase segment of the event. Black Labone has aimed to develop a weekly arts programme which will create a space for artists from across various disciplines to interact, collaborate and produce work that consistently improves upon itself. This is done through regular weekly concerts, discussions, slam poetry performances, live music, art exhibitions, open-mic and occasional screenings, to name a few. The sessions remain free to the public every Thursday from 16:00 to midnight. Over the past five years, we have collaborated with events and movements like Sawubona Music Jam and Smoking Dragon Festivals..”
