Editor’s Note
This one’s for the family and friends,
The ones that show love to us again and again.
Never asking questions like “man what do you do?”
But always in the corner shouting “baby do you!”
This one’s for those that knew from the start,
The elements we have couldn’t be found on no physics chart,
Now you’re wondering man how did we get here?
It’s cause we are who we say we are!
To say there’s a buzz in the air would be an understatement. The atmosphere feels charged with opportunity and possibility. It’s as though this time of year extends one final outstretched hand – an invitation to climb back up and take another shot at what once slipped from your grasp. Whether you reach for it or let it pass could shape not only how this season ends, but how the year, and perhaps the bigger picture, unfolds.
We too, perhaps, might have fallen off at some point, buried under the files and folders of plans we had going into the year, or even lost sight of our own “bigger picture.” That’s what makes this current buzz all the more exciting; it’s not just an external spark, but a call to action. A reminder to pause, reflect, and realign ourselves with the path we set out on. To not only acknowledge the hand extended by the season, but to reach back with intention – to continue building, creating, and moving closer to what we first envisioned.
We are excited to see out the year at Musicist, and are very intentional with not only what we have lined up, but also how it links back to the type of work you now know and love us for. This week, we start off with a piece that reads closer to home – “How Damn Happy Was She?”, a dive into the mind of Aretha Franklin that looks beyond the who and when but rather explores the how and why that we often aim for in our journaling and commentary. It’s a fitting start to what we hope will shape the kind of work filling our schedules in this last stretch of the year, alongside our continued gig guide, playlists and the stories that keep shaping the sound and soul of our time.
… We love our people, cause we know they love us too.
